You Have Low Blood Pressure: Why Worry?
Some people think that the lower their blood pressure is, the
healthier they are. This is certainly true, but only up to a point. Many people are unaware that low blood
pressure, or hypotension, can pose a significant health risk just like high blood pressure, or hypertension.
Normal blood pressure varies from person to
person, but a good blood pressure reading is usually considered to be around 120/80.
Low blood pressure, on the other hand, would be under 90/60. But it can be difficult to define
exact numbers because what's normal for one person may be excessively low for someone else.
Low blood pressure is a dangeroius risk to health because the heart isn't forcing enough blood, and
therefore enough oxygen, to the brain and other vital organs. Organ damage or failure can occur. Fainting is also
common in someone with low blood pressure.
Low blood pressure symptoms are easy to miss,
and as a result low blood pressure often goes unnoticed and untreated.
It can also be difficult to determine the causes of low blood pressure, so it's important to talk
to your doctor about it to agree on the best course of treatment as soon as possible.
